Rachel Freathy

Rachel FreathyRachel is a Sir Henry Dale Fellow at the University of Exeter Medical School. Her research aims to use genetics to understand the factors affecting the growth of a foetus in utero and its association with later life disease.

Rachel is leading genome-wide association studies and Mendelian randomization studies of birth weight in the Early Growth Genetics (EGG) Consortium, an international collaboration of investigators. These studies have recently identified 60 genetic loci associated with birth weight, highlighted genetic links with later life disease, and shown causal associations between maternal obesity-associated factors and birth weight (publications in Nature and JAMA, 2016).
