Jorien Treur

Dr. Jorien Treur is a Senior Research Fellow at Amsterdam UMC Hospital and the University of Amsterdam, where she investigates substance use behaviour – including cigarette smoking, cannabis use, alcohol use and caffeine consumption.

She is particularly interested in the relationship of substance use with (other) psychiatric traits and cognitive functioning. To study this relationship, she uses epidemiological, genetic and experimental research methods. So far, Dr. Treur has used Mendelian randomization analysis to clarify the causal nature of relationships between substance use on the one hand and sleep problems, schizophrenia and ADHD on the other hand.
